Clean lined and modern, Mendip’s Christon 750 inset stove is perfect for new-build projects

Whether you’re retro-fitting into an existing scheme or planning a room renovation, extension or whole house build, adding a powerful yet efficient stove is key to creating a focal point and adding that all-important heat source ready for the autumn/winter months ahead. The Christon 750 inset stove from Mendip is ideal for modern living with its full glass door design and sleek, contemporary look. The generously sized insulating chamber is big enough for 60cm logs while the steel construction of the box within a box design provides excellent airflow, enabling convection heat to be distributed evenly and effectively within the room.

Christon 750 Inset

“Combining innovation with aesthetics, the Christon 750 inset stove delivers on all levels,” says Chris Baines, Managing Director of Mendip Stoves. “There’s also the choice of a three or four-sided frame for a hearth or flush fit wall installation – the ultimate in flexibility for projects of all styles and sizes.”

When considering an inset stove, the key is to plan ahead at the build stage, as this makes the whole process much simpler and straightforward. For instance, when encasing the stove within a wall, it will be advantageous to provide additional convection around the appliance. This can be achieved via venting pipes from the top of the stove, a fan (which the Christon 750 has as an additional option) or low to high level vents. Or even a mixture of these three. The venting pipes can either be vented into the room, or into an adjoining area, with around 40% of the heat being diverted into this second space. This makes the Christon 750 inset stove perfect for rooms of all sizes, as the optional fan drives air around the case that encloses the stove then out into the room, heating the space more efficiently.

“Bear in mind that you will need an air supply,” adds Chris, “which could be beneath the floor if you plan early enough. Remember to plan the flue location and exit point and consider sharing the heat with another room.”

Rated A for energy efficiency, this woodburning stove has a heat output of 8.7kW and is 78.4% efficient. With a two-point locking door system for added stability and peace of mind, it’s priced from £1,370.

What’s more, the UK designed Christon is also Ecodesign Ready, in line with the new European-wide programme to lower emissions and improve air quality, which comes into effect by 2022. And for every stove purchased, £10 will be donated to the Woodland Trust, helping to plant native trees in the UK.
