Fire bricks sit between the fire and the stove's steel or cast iron body, protecting the casing from direct flame contact while reflecting heat back into the firebox rather than letting it escape into the metal, which is what allows the stove to reach and hold an efficient working temperature. With normal use, bricks gradually crack, crumble or thin out through repeated heating and cooling, and once wear is visible across several bricks it's generally more effective to replace the whole set together, keeping the fit and thickness consistent throughout the firebox rather than mixing old and new bricks.
Because the 8kW Mk1 was built with two different grate arrangements, it's important to confirm which one your stove has before ordering; this set is specifically for the plain grate build, not the EMG grate version.
